KarDes Mobile App

KarDes is a free mobile application developed by the Hrant Dink Foundation, designed for users who wish to explore Turkey's multicultural heritage and layered history. Available in Turkish and English, KarDes provides access to the locations and histories of nearly 2,000 cultural heritage sites, including mosques, churches, synagogues, schools, and cemeteries in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. The app offers guided "memory tours", allowing users to listen to hidden stories of the cities narrated by well-known artists.

In Izmir, KarDes presents various memory tours that reflect the city's multicultural past. Among these, the Karataş and Kemeraltı routes stand out. The Karataş tour offers the opportunity to explore the rich history and cultural heritage of this neighborhood, which had a significant Jewish population in the early 20th century. The Kemeraltı tour highlights the Jewish Quarter in the city's commercial hub, showcasing the area's multicultural evolution from its foundation. Through these tours, users can gain deeper insight into Izmir's Jewish heritage and its layered history.

The "Izmir: The First Juderia" audio guide has been created for tourists who wish to explore Izmir’s first Jewish settlement area, known as the First Juderia, located around Kemeraltı Havra Street.

This free guide offers a 70-minute tour, featuring
12 stops and 24 stories. The audio narrations are available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German; please note that there is no Turkish version available.
